Walkthrough[]

Once The Hero of Bower Lake has collected Hammer, the Hero of Strength, they can return to the Heroes' Guild for instructions on locating the next hero. Theresa revealed that the Hero of Will is likely the mage living in Brightwood named Garth. After stating that Garth was Lucien's research partner, she added that Garth viewed the research solely in an academic light. Meanwhile, Lucien took their research literally, leading to a violent end to their partnership.

The hero has been given the task of traveling to Brightwood to recruit Garth to join them. As the hero enters Brightwood, Theresa warns them through the guild seal that "someone or something" is approaching. She is referring to the Great Shard, a powerful weapon originally created during the Old Kingdom but now reconstructed by Lucien.

With the power of the Shard, dozens of spire guards are transported to Garth's tower to siege his residence. The hero must fight their way up the tower to save Garth. At the higher level of the tower, it appears to be blocked off by burning furniture. The hero can see that a disturbing figure is confronting Garth. Garth calls the figure a "freak" and "Lucien's failed experiment." Once Garth's magic blade shield retires, the figure paralyzes Garth with shock magic and uses the Shard to abduct and take him to the spire.

Theresa comforts the hero through the guild seal, telling them that there was nothing they could have done, and reveals that the figure is Lucien's Commandant. Theresa then instructs the hero to return to the guild so that they may discuss what to do next.
