The Temple of Avo is a location in Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapters and Fable Anniversary. It is a temple in Witchwood dedicated to the Albion god of good deeds, Avo.

"The Temple of Light is here. Generosity will be rewarded." - Disembodied voice upon entering the temple.

Fable[]

Description[]

The Temple is a small yet useful building, dedicated in alignment to the light side and representing all that is good and pure in Albion. It can be found near Knothole Glade. Inside the Temple, there is a circular fountain that accepts gold donations. If you donate a large amount of gold, the two acolyte priests in the Temple will gift you with rewards. Evil characters gain more good points than good characters who donate the same amount. The opposite counterpart to the Temple of Avo is the Chapel of Skorm, where you sacrifice people to gain evil points and other disreputable rewards.

Rewards[]

  • The Title of "Paladin" + Gift of Youth - will reduce your age by 4-10 years "Your donation is very generous" (1601 minimum at neutral alignment and below)
  • The Sentinus, a legendary Greatmace "The Gods are pleased by your donation. Very pleased." (32000 minimum at neutral alignment and below)

The amount of alignment good points depends also on how much you donate, for instance:

  • Giving 100 gold will give 15 points to a good character.
  • Giving 1000 gold will give 100+ points to a good character.
  • Giving 3000 gold will give 170+ points to a good character.

Quest[]

There is also a quest related to this place called Temple of Light.

Map Description[]

Many pray. Not all are answered.

Fable II[]

In Fable II it is said that the temple was destroyed and replaced with the Temple of Light in Oakfield.

Trivia[]

  • The Temple of Avo's early name was Temple of Light.
  • Similar to the acolytes at the Chapel of Skorm, the acolytes at the Temple of Avo wear black robes. However, this is decorated with a white trim instead of red.
  • The Snowspire Oracle in The Lost Chapters and Anniversary claims that Avo does not exist, and that Avo's Temple was simply built in a place where Will power was strong, tending towards good and healing those who stood there. The Oracle cynically states that the ruthless Trader who discovered this location sensed an opportunity; he invented Avo and constructed his Temple there, specifically to extract gold from those who felt the god's "power". Likewise, this same Trader allegedly built the Chapel of Skorm within the evil nexus of Darkwood[1] for a similar profiteering motive.
  • There is an unused cutscene for the Temple of Avo that shows one of the priests praying on your behalf. But the cutscene was clearly never finished.
  • Unused dialogue for the Priests in the Temple imply that one of them is meant to be called the Church Leader and that he would have sometimes refused your offering if he didn't think you were worthy or if he didn't feel like doing so. Making the reward system more of a gamble. Other interesting things are that the Chuch Leader would have rewarded you for your devotion through granting you new abilities, giving you certain items or showering you with riches. Attacking the Church Leader would have also resulted in your character going bald as a punishment. It's assumed that praying may have also been considered.
  • According to co-creator Dene Carter, the original Fable was meant to have spells that would only be accessible to the player by worshipping to the right deity. For example, an unused spell called Raise Dead would only be accessible to those who worshipped Skorm. While spells like Heal Life would only be accessible to those who worshipped Avo. This idea was influenced by the rogue-inspired game NetHack, but was cut from Fable during development.
  • There exist a glitch such that the gold donated to the Temple won't register. It will not be taken from the hero and the reward will not be given, the hero will just wave his hand. It will register when hero exits the map and reenters. The glitch seems to happen after loading a hero save in the area or after killing the monks.
