Smiling Jake is a character featured in the novel Fable: Reaver. He is one of the pirates in Captain Dread’s crew.
Story[]
Smiling Jake was a pirate previously known as Scowling Jake, until the day when he and his fellow crewmates attacked a ship and he made the unfortunate decision of swinging onto the enemy ship with his dagger clenched between his teeth. The instant he landed he received a punch directly in his mouth, which drove the blade deep into both sides of his cheeks, thus scarring him as he was always smiling.
By the time of the novel, Smiling Jake is one of the men within Captain Dread’s crew, and stands by the latter’s side during all the events that take place at the time, supporting Dread’s campaign against Reaver.
After the final battle that ensues on the Marianne, Jake is knocked out of the ship by Reaver into the sea, hence, ends up being the only survivor of Dread’s crew after their ship is set ablaze and sunk into the ocean.
