Lionhead was the name of a male Hamster, which was tamed and owned by Lionhead Studios' producer, known as Mark Webley.
History[]
Not much is really known about the origin of this particular hamster, but it is assumed that Mark Webley owned the hamster for a numbers of years before founding his own video game development studio in 1996. There was also a photo revealed by Mark which shows Lionhead confidently playing with a pet dog.
Struggling to come up with a name for a video game development studio, both Peter Molyneux and Mark Webley decided to name their company after this particular hamster. This is because they thought the name "Lionhead" would help to make their studio stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately, when they went back to check on the hamster after making this decision, it turns out that it had actually died and was already in a state of rigor mortis.
Appearance[]
Only one known photo was made public by Mark Webley and it can be found in the Developer Diaries for the very first Fable game. In this photo, it shows the appearance of Lionhead the hamster. It seemed to have a half-white and half-blonde or half-ginger coloured fur on its body.
Trivia[]
- There is actually a type of Rabbit that is known as a Lionhead.
- There was a fan site created in memory of Lionhead's legacy called The Dead Hamster.
- It is actually common for a hamster and other pets (like birds) to randomly succumb to a viral infection, that can kill them very quickly without the owner noticing any major differences in their habits.
