Bowerstone is a city of Albion and the only location to be featured in every game of the Fable franchise.
Overview[]
Over the subsequent 500 years following its introduction in the first Fable, the city expands dramatically and industrializes itself, reappearing as Albion's capital city in Fable II, Fable III and Tales of Albion while being mentioned and visualised in the distance in Fable: The Journey.
Fable, Fable: The Lost Chapers and Fable Anniversary[]
Bowerstone is the largest town in Albion in the Fable era, located just north of the Heroes' Guild.
Overview[]
It is one of the safest places in Albion as it is surrounded by a large wall and is protected by many guards. The town is ruled over by a Mayor, Lady Elvira Grey. The town is divided into two sections; a northern section, which is the more prosperous of the two, and a southern slum, which also consists of the Bowerstone Quay. Citizens of the south are not allowed to enter the northern section without permission of a resident of the north. It is Albion's economic centre.
Bowerstone's economy relies heavily on trading with Oakvale and Orchard Farm. Most of the goods come in through Bowerstone Quay.
Bowerstone is ruled over by a Mayor who lives in Bowerstone Manor in Bowerstone North. The town has a Sheriff who leads the Albion Guards. Weapons are not allowed, being temporarily confiscated by the guards upon entry by any method.
Lore[]
Bowerstone has a long history of thuggery, killing, gangs, and wars. One well known war in Bowerstone's history took place when an evil wizard opened up a portal to destroy the city. The great Guild mage Solcius stopped him, using a sword known as Avo's Tear. Magdalena was one of Bowerstone's earliest rulers, and Elvira Grey, mayor of Bowerstone during the Hero of Oakvale's time, was a direct descendant of Magdalena.
Districts[]
It consists of four locations:
- Bowerstone South
- Bowerstone North
- North is the more prosperous part of Bowerstone. This is the place where the more affluent residences live. Lady Grey resides in the Bowerstone Manor, which also lies here. In the shop you can buy the Solus Greatsword - this is the only place where it can be purchased. The town's temporary prison cell is also here, but it is unknown if the guards have their office here.
- Bowerstone Quay
- This is the harbour of Bowerstone. As noted on the Map screen of Fable: The Lost Chapters, it is used primarily for commerce with Oakvale, by sailing down the river and out the delta. The Quay is also the place where the local fist fighters gang resides. A witch who makes potions also lives in a hut there. The witch only appears in Fable: The Lost Chapters to ask about The Sick Child quest.
- Bowerstone Jail
- Outside the northern city walls, this lone prison cell, along with the one on the other side of the wall in Bowerstone North, comprises Bowerstone's jail.

Fable II[]
Bowerstone in Fable II is a large, if not the largest, city in Albion. The events of Fable II begin here when the Hero is a child. Five hundred years later, Bowerstone expanded even more, into a city. Although still protected by the guards and walls, Weapons were allowed to be carried by their owners.
Overview[]
There seems to be parts of the city where bandits have grown up and now do operations in the city, including stealing boat supplies. After the main story for Fable II your statue can be erected there depending on your choice at the Spire. The city's mayor was Lucien Fairfax until he left for the Spire. He was also the richest man in Bowerstone and lived in Fairfax Castle. Bowerstone is still the largest and safest city in Albion, as well as being its economic centre as it was in Fable.
Lore[]
Several decades after the events of Fable, some Heroes were attacked in Bowerstone and a battle took place that began the fall of the Heroes.
The Hero of Bower Lake[]
Childhood[]
In the beginning of the game, the Hero is with their sister, Rose, gathering warmth from a fire in Bowerstone Old Town. As a child, you are restricted from going to other districts, excluding the visit to Fairfax Castle, so you can not see the rest of the city during winter time. It is here where the Hero and Rose first meet Theresa, who tells them to buy the music box from the travelling merchant, Mystical Murgo, for five gold pieces. In order to obtain this money, the Hero goes around Old Town doing tasks for different people; some of the tasks may drastically affect Bowerstone in the future. The Hero will also come across a bully abusing a dog, fight the bully and save the dog. Once they have the music box, Rose makes her wish, nothing happens apart from some bright lights and the box disappearing after which they go to bed. At night, the Hero's dog will wake the Hero and Rose up, and Lucien's personal guards come to collect them.
Adult Life[]
Depending on what choices the player makes during the Hero's childhood, Bowerstone may end up being a very different city. If the player chooses to hand the warrants for the criminals to Derek, the city will become prosperous and there will be more shops and stalls available. White picket fences and flowerbeds can be seen and the town is much easier to navigate due to more open space. If the player chooses to give the warrants to Arfur, the city will become slum infested and poor, but allows the Hero to start working for the Assassination Society. This variant of the city has scenery such as a crashed carriage and more minimized choices for navigation.
Districts[]
It consists of four locations:
- Bowerstone Market
- The lower and middle classes.
- Old Town
- Depending on the choices the Hero made as a child, this district can either be a crime-ridden slum or a newly renewed area of great wealth and potential.
- Fairfax Gardens
- Home to the more upper-class people. Fairfax Castle was constructed on the site of where Bowerstone Manor, the home of Lady Grey, once stood. It was burned to the ground by witchspotters who were convinced that Lady Grey was a witch.
- Bowerstone Cemetery
- An average graveyard.

Fable III[]
Bowerstone returns once more in Fable III as the largest and the capital city of Albion.
Overview[]
Since the events of Fable II, the region has undergone an industrial revolution. The city has been split into four parts; Bowerstone Castle, Bowerstone Industrial, Bowerstone Market, and Bowerstone Old Quarter. Situated beneath Old Quarter and Industrial is Understone, an underground district of Bowerstone added by the Understone Quest Pack DLC. East of the city lies Millfields, patrolled by the guards as part of the greater Bowerstone area.
Lore[]
Fifty years after the events of Fable II, much has changed, including even further expansion. What was once a colourful, thriving, quaint city, Bowerstone has now become a bustling capital of industry. No longer dependent on most manual labour, metal chasms have replaced most of the jobs and economic systems that were once visible.
Districts[]
It consists of five locations featured in the base game and a sixth one which is only present if the player has purchased the Understone Quest Pack DLC:
- Bowerstone Market
- The market serves the same purpose as in previous iterations of the Fable franchise, retaining much of the same appearance as it did in Fable II, including the iconic clock tower, with the main change being the whole area has acquired a more "built up" appearance. A few of the shops seen in Bowerstone Market circa Fable II have returned, however all have been renamed; for example, the potion shop "Potion in Motion" seen in Fable II - there is a strikingly similar potion shop in the same position now, this time titled "The Magic Bottle". The note-worthy "Pigknight" seen at the entrance to Bowerstone Market has been replaced by a statue of Logan (the "Pigknight" statue appears in Bowerstone Old Quarter now).
- Bowerstone Industrial
- Bowerstone Industrial is a location within Bowerstone. Bowerstone Industrial is situated north of Bowerstone Market, Bowerstone Castle, and Bowerstone Old Quarter and it is Albion's main industrial centre. It is full of crime and poverty, the people are very miserable, and many work in factories owned by Reaver. You can improve the conditions during your rule as King or Queen.
- Bowerstone Old Quarter
- This area of Bowerstone is the site of the Battle of Albion, where the Hero leads his followers against Logan. The Battle causes great damage to the town and the Hero gains the option to restore it to its original state once he or she has become ruler.
- Bowerstone Castle
- Originally Fairfax Castle, Bowerstone Castle has been renamed following the events of Fable II. It serves as the residence of the monarchy, and has been greatly expanded over the 50 years between Fable II and Fable III. This is where you start the game and where you spend your time while ruling Albion as King or Queen.
- Millfields
- Millfields is the evolution of Fable II's Bower Lake, having been changed much in the last fifty years. It also has expanded on what in Fable II was the Market Road, so the region is much closer to Bowerstone, and is now considered part of the greater Bowerstone area. Page describes the region, specifically the lake, as "the last piece of natural beauty remaining in Bowerstone".
- Understone (DLC Only)
- Understone is a subterranean town underneath Bowerstone visited in the Understone Quest Pack DLC in Fable III. It was created by Montague Humes to avoid the perceived threat of the Spire 50 years before.
